Project Case Studies
During my time at IUT de Lens, I worked on several collaborative projects with international students. Here are two case studies highlighting the challenges, solutions, and key learnings from these experiences.
Web Application (Global Bites)
During the second week, I worked in a randomly assigned team with French students to create a web application. I was responsible for designing the user interface and the logo. Global Bites is an app that allows users to discover recipes from others and read or leave reviews.
The Challenge
The main challenge was the short time constraint and working with second-year students from France while I was still in my first year, which made the workload and expectations feel uneven.
The Solution
I focused on managing my time efficiently by prioritizing the UI and logo early, keeping my designs simple and clear, and communicating regularly with my team to make sure everything stayed aligned and on schedule.
What I Learned
This project helped me learn how to adapt quickly in a mixed-level and multilingual team. It pushed me to be more confident in my design decisions, work faster under pressure, and collaborate with people who had different skill levels and working styles.
Video and Motion Graphics (Vimy Ridge)
During the first week at IUT de Lens, we were able to choose our own team based on introduction videos. This project focused on videography and motion graphics, where we created a historical documentary about Vimy Ridge. I was responsible for filming footage during our visit to Vimy Ridge and for creating the motion graphic intro and end credits.
The Challenge
The main challenge was the short time constraint and my lack of experience in both videography and motion graphics. I had never used Adobe After Effects before, and I was working alongside graduating third-year students who had significantly more experience.
The Solution
To overcome this, I asked questions and sought guidance from my teacher and one of the third-year students from my program who accompanied us. This helped me understand the tools quickly and complete my tasks on time.
What I Learned
As a first-year student, I learned a lot from this experience. I gained hands-on experience with Adobe After Effects, improved my understanding of motion graphics, and learned how to use a professional camera for filming.
